![]() Dr. Abhishek C. Sawant is a board certified fellowship trained in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology serving the Dignity Health Medical Group Cardiology- Chandler area. He has extensive expertise in Cardiology with a special interest in valve replacement.
Dr. Sawant started his career in the primary care space where he worked as a hospitalist. He continued his education and is known for his caring nature to treat the whole patient.
Dr. Sawant completed his graduate school at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he received his Masters in Public Health. He continued his training in Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He further completed his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Arizona School of Medicine/ Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona where he served as the Chief Interventional Fellow. He completed an additional 1-year advanced Structural Heart Disease Fellowship at the University of Arizona School of Medicine where he received training in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), MitraClip/ Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER), Left Atrial Appendage Closure/Watchman, Atrial Septal Defect ASD) and Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closures. Dr. Sawant is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. Additionally, he is also board certified in Nuclear Cardiology as well.
Dr. Sawant was awarded a 2-year Electrophysiology Research Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is passionate about patient centered research and has participated in several clinical trials and authored numerous publications (Please see Pubmed: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=SAWANT%2C+ABHISHEK&sort=date).
He is also a reviewer in several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Sawant's research has been referenced in the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology Clinical Guidelines. He was also a distinguished speaker at the Heart Rhythm Society 36th Annual Scientific Session in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Sawant has been awarded several grants and awards/honors including the Young Investigator Award at the 2014 Annual Northwestern Cardiovascular Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Sawant has more than 15 years of clinical experience and was Clinical Instructor in Medicine at UCSF Fresno in Fresno, California for 5 years. He is passionate about teaching medical students, residents and cardiology fellows and is currently appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona. In his spare time Dr. Sawant loves hiking and bicycling with his family.
